About

Inspired by Joy, enriched by nature and a dream to create an unforgettable experience.

The Harrogate Lane story dates back well before its most recent owners, to the traditional custodians of the land, the Peramangk, who lived in the region and roamed land from Angaston in the Barossa, through Harrogate, all the way to Strathalbyn. At the top of the property, you’ll see this history brought to life through the Scar Tree, otherwise known as a Canoe tree. It’s here that bark has been removed by the Peramangk people, to most likely be used as a canoe in the creek that flows through the property.

In 2019 the 226 acre farm was purchased, with the vision to provide a sanctuary for all creatures, great and small. However, shortly after acquiring the property, the devastating Adelaide Hills bushfires tore through the area, causing enormous damage to the once thriving farm.

Wanting to do their bit in rejuvenating the area, the owners put plans in place to create an experience where people could come to escape their worries and enjoy everything the Adelaide Hills has to offer. Enter, Harrogate Lane.

Built with sustainability at the forefront, Harrogate Lane prioritises eco-conscious living. Offering guests the unique opportunity to embrace a luxurious off-grid lifestyle, harnessing the sun's rays and capturing rainwater from the South Australian sky. Here, our strongest connection lies in replenishing ourselves with the pure elements of the natural world.

An experience as unique as you.

Discover a realm of unparalleled beauty and tranquility, where rolling hills and vineyard vistas paint an idyllic backdrop to your off-grid retreat at Harrogate Lane. A place where every detail has been crafted to enhance your experience and bring you joy.

Fill your days with fresh country air and leisurely strolls around the picturesque property, where you may bump into some of the animals who reside there. Later, enjoy an evening fire-pit with roasted marshmallows and a sky full of stars.

Introducing Joy, our flagship accommodation experience

At the heart of this sanctuary is JOY, our architecturally-designed, bespoke, luxury retreat that exudes comfortable elegance.

Harrogate Lane’s flagship stay was inspired by the owner’s grandmother, Joy. The ultimate host, Joy loved nothing more than opening her home to entertaining guests. She was an elegant world traveller who managed hotels in a previous life, who built a home full of love and joy for her family to rest, rejuvenate and have fun – a sentiment that has been carried through every element of Harrogate Lane today.

The property has since been returned to its former glory before the bushfires, adorned with newly planted gumtrees and home to Friesian and Belted Galloway cows, Scottish Highland cattle, sheep, horses and llamas – all which you can enjoy while staying on the property. If you’re lucky, you’ll even spot a kangaroo and koala or two.

Once you arrive at JOY you will be in your own secluded sanctuary. The perfect place to relax, rediscover and reconnect with yourself and those around you.
